On behalf of the World Council of Churches (WCC), I extend my heartfelt congratulations on your election as Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania. May the grace of our Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—guide and strengthen you in your new ministry, as you shepherd the faithful and bear witness to Christ’s Gospel in Albania and beyond.

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed deep alarm and grief over the deadly attack on Gaza carried out by Israeli forces on 17-18 March, killing more than 400 people.

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed deep sorrow and grave concern over the recent tragic developments in Syria, where, according to some sources, more than 1,000 civilians, primarily from the Alawite community, have been massacred.

As people of faith representing diverse traditions, united in our common belief in the sanctity of life and the pursuit of justice, peace, and human dignity, we commend the States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) for your historic commitment and leadership in working toward a world without nuclear weapons. Each signature and ratification affirming this Treaty is an act of courage and beacon of hope, and we applaud you.

On behalf of the World Council of Churches (WCC), I extend our greetings to all Muslims across the world as you celebrate the blessed month of Ramadan.

The World Council of Churches Office of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation, and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, during an annual meeting held in Rome from 17-20 February, reviewed the impact of past joint initiatives, took note of interreligious activities by the respective entities, explored future joint projects, and laid the groundwork for the 50th anniversary of collaboration between the two offices in 2027.

24 February 2025 marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has provoked the bloodiest and most destructive war in Europe since the Second World War.
