People in Ukraine observed their fourth Easter since the Russian invasion of their nation. Oleksandra Kovalenko, a member of the Ukrainian delegation at the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, and Valentyn Hrebennyk, a graduate of the WCC Ecumenical Institute at Bossey shares their Easter experience and encourages the WCC fellowship to continue praying for people of Ukraine.

The Theology and Spiritual Life Working Group of the Young People in the Ecumenical Movement Commission shared their insights on the celebration of a common Easter.

They expressed that the idea of finding a common date for Easter is about giving visible expression to the unity in which they already believe – that the resurrection of Christ is for all, and that people, across traditions and continents, are part of one body. 

Rev. Anatoliy Raychynets, head of external relations of the Ukrainian Evangelical Church and deputy general secretary of the Ukrainian Bible Society, is a chaplain sharing prayers and messages with Ukrainian men and women serving on the frontlines of the war. 

Dr Kimmo Kääriäinen, executive director of the National Church Council, Department for International Relations for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, reflected on the relevance of the ecumenical movement today, as well as how churches in Finland will observe the upcoming Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

Der Vorsitzende des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Landesbischof Dr. Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, blickte auf das 76-jährige Bestehen des ÖRK zurück und sprach ein Friedensgebet, das eine Botschaft der Hoffnung und des Vertrauens vermittelte, dass die Zukunft der Welt in Gottes Hand liegt.

World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm reflected on the WCC’s 76th anniversary, and offered a Prayer for Peace that shared a message of hope and trust in laying the future of the world in God’s hands.
