WCC condemns escalating violence in the Middle East

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay condemned the escalating violence in the Middle East, including Israel's recent airstrikes on Iran and its ongoing military operations in Gaza and Lebanon. 

Prayer service for peace in Armenia, St Pierre Cathedral

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is inviting all people of good will to join a prayer day for Armenia on 10 November, the day before the opening of the COP29 climate talks in Azerbaijan.  The WCC will organize a local prayer service in St Pierre Cathedral, Geneva on 10 November at 5pm CET in collaboration with the Armenian community.

WCC, KAICIID explore areas of cooperation

A delegation from the KAICIID Dialogue Centre – based in Lisbon – visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 22 October to explore areas of common interest and possible cooperation, with a particular focus on issues in the European region.

"Human Rights in Indonesia” side event addressed crises in West Papua

A side event to the 57th UN Human Rights Council entitled “Human Rights in West Papua,” hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and partner organizations on 1 October, addressed the dire human rights situation in the Papuan provinces of Indonesia, with ongoing violations that include extra-judicial killings, internal displacement due to armed conflict, restrictions on civil liberties, and a growing number of cases of land grabbing. 

Children, HIV and the church

According to the 2024 global UNAIDS update, approximately 120,000 children acquired HIV in 2023. Only 57% of the estimated 1.4 million children living with HIV were receiving antiretroviral therapy in this year. In comparison, 77% of the overall population of persons living with HIV have access to antiretroviral therapy.
