On this Easter morning, we praise Jesus Christ, who has triumphed over death, and we pray that our people and the whole world may walk in the path of new life.
Prof. Dr Amélé Ekué is academic dean of the Geneva office of Globethics. It was with much sadness that I received news of the death of dear Archbishop Anastasios of Albania. I count it as one of the great privileges of my life to have worked closely with him when we were both Presidents of the World Council of Churches from the Assembly at Porto Alegre in 2006 to the Assembly in Busan in 2013.
Hunsam Lee, new general secretary of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, and Dr Sungkook Park, from the Ecumenical Department of the church, met with Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), and Dr Manoj Kurian, director of the WCC Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing, at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva.
Upon the admission of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania to “Evangelismos” Hospital in Athens at the beginning of January 2025, expressions of widespread acceptance and appreciation emerged from people of all educational backgrounds and ages, from various societal circles (ecclesiastical, academic, political, journalistic), as well as from international inter-Christian and interfaith communities and beyond.
In our brief article, as an expression of love and deep appreciation for the esteemed Archbishop of Tirana, Anastasios, we present, as much as possible, his significant contribution to interfaith dialogue and his active involvement in actions and initiatives aimed at establishing peaceful and just coexistence among all people, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, or cultural identity.
The mountaintop is a holy place. The valleys below are distant, and the weight of daily life feels momentarily lifted. In scripture, it’s where humanity and the divine meet: Moses conversed with God amidst fire and cloud on Sinai; Elijah heard the still small voice on Horeb; Jesus transfigured in the presence of his disciples, his face shining like the sun.
