WCC calls for bold steps in global economic justice

At the 57th Human Rights Council side event titled “Reimagining Development: Inclusive Models for Sustainable and Equitable Development,” the World Council of Churches (WCC) reinforced its leadership role in advocating for inclusive, sustainable development. Rev. Nicole Ashwood, WCC programme executive for Just Community of Women and Men, urged global leaders to rethink development models based on human dignity, environmental care, and gender equality.

The transversals of Overcoming Racism, Xenophobia, and Related Discrimination and the Just Community of Women and Men of the  WCC are committed to ‘leaving no one behind’ by ensuring that issues of dignity and equity are included in all conversations as faith communities. They seek to strengthen male-female and race relations within the WCC fellowship, while advocating for shifts in the power structures which undergird this.

Recognising the role of Western epistemological systems in the gender and racial binaries, they advocate for decolonisation and decoloniality in their work and beyond.

This brochure shares ore information about the work and invites the fellowship to this pilgrimage of discovery, truth-telling, and transformation from the churches to the world and back to the churches.

Visiting Ghana, WCC president from North America presents “Ahead of her Time” awards and recognition of Achimota Secondary School

Rev. Dr Angelique Keturah Walker-Smith, World Council of Churches (WCC) president from North America, visited Ghana to present the Ahead of Her Time awards and the related book to renowned women leaders, past and present. She also had opportunity to visit the Achimota Secondary School which contributed to the ecumenical and leadership formation of these leaders.

Side event in Bonn highlights intersectional climate impacts

The World Council of Churches (WCC), in collaboration with the Brahma Kumaris, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Lutheran World Federation, and ACT Church of Sweden, co-organized a side event, ”Addressing the Intersectional Impacts of Climate Change; Bridging Gender Gaps in Climate: Faith Perspectives,” at the Climate Change Conference 2024 in Bonn. The event focused on gender justice and strategies to bridge gender gaps in climate change.

Statement on Ecumenical Solidarity with Sudan

It has been more than a year since large-scale fighting broke out between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This conflict between two former allies in the 2021 military coup that toppled the previous transitional government has almost destroyed a country whose people had already suffered through many years of protracted and multidimensional crises.
