Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, an Orthodox Hierarch of International Recognition

Upon the admission of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania to “Evangelismos” Hospital in Athens at the beginning of January 2025, expressions of widespread acceptance and appreciation emerged from people of all educational backgrounds and ages, from various societal circles (ecclesiastical, academic, political, journalistic), as well as from international inter-Christian and interfaith communities and beyond.

In our brief article, as an expression of love and deep appreciation for the esteemed Archbishop of Tirana, Anastasios, we present, as much as possible, his significant contribution to interfaith dialogue and his active involvement in actions and initiatives aimed at establishing peaceful and just coexistence among all people, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, or cultural identity.

Metropolitan Dr Vasilios of Constantia - Ammochostos, Church of Cyprus, WCC president. The metropolitan reflected on the history of conflict and occupation, and the ongoing hope for peace, in Cyprus. 

Expressing trauma through art: Yazidi women share stories

In connection with the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Church of Norway, Norwegian Church Aid, Stefanus Alliance, and The Norwegian Council on Religions and Life Stance Communities organized an exhibit and seminar through which Yazidi women expressed their trauma though art therapy and storytelling. 

WCC gives thanks for the life of Choan-Seng Song

The general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, has given thanks for the creative and inspiring work of Rev. Prof. Dr Choan-Seng Song, former WCC associate director for Faith and Order, who has died at the age of 95.

Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy visits WCC

On 14 October, the leadership of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) headquarters while attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, being held 13-17 October. 

WCC urges caution with new law passed by Ukrainian Rada

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay and WCC moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm are urging caution with regard to a law passed by the Ukrainian Rada which bans the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia in Ukraine.
