Students in Bangladesh share challenges and stories with WCC

As World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay continued his visit in Bangladesh, on 12 April, he visited the National Council of Churches in Bangladesh offices in Dhaka, meeting with the general secretary Rev. David Das and staff members.

EAPPI programme coordinator reflects on faith, action—and hope

Iskandar Majlaton is local programme coordinator for the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). Operating in extraordinary circumstances that include the start of the war between Israel and Palestine that began in October 2023, the continued occupation of Palestinian land, and the increasing insecurity and violence that threatens the region. 

Seven Weeks for Water 2025, week 2: "Feminization of water poverty in Africa”

The second reflection of the Seven Weeks for Water 2025 series of the WCC Ecumenical Water Network was written by the late Dr Agnes Abuom, former moderator of the WCC central committee. Dr Abuom was the first woman and first African to hold this important position. She was also the executive director of TAABCO Research and Development Consultants, Nairobi, Kenya. In her reflection, being an African woman around the  International Women’s Day, she explores the linkages between poverty and water scarcity and their impact on women. In 2017, Kenya was reeling under a serious drought which was deteriorating the situation for women as they were mostly responsible for fetching water for their families.

Former and current WCC leaders appointed ministers in Lebanese government

Dr Nora Bayrakdarian, current vice moderator of the WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, and former member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, has been appointed Minister of Youth and Sports in the Lebanese Republic; and Dr Tarek Mitri, former WCC staff, has been appointed deputy prime minister.

Metropolitan Dr Vasilios reflects on challenges—and hope—for real peace in Cyprus

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee met in Cyprus from 21-26 November at the invitation of the Church of Cyprus, Holy Metropolis of Constantia and Ammochostos, extended by H.E. Metropolitan Dr Vasilios of Constantia - Ammochostos, Church of Cyprus, WCC president. The metropolitan reflected on the history of conflict and occupation, and the ongoing hope for peace, in Cyprus. 

WCC reflects on “Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation and Unity” at European consultation on just peace

During a European consultation on just peace, organized by the Conference of European Churches in cooperation with the Polish Ecumenical Council from 9-11 December, Peter Prove, director of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission of Churches on International Affairs, spoke about A Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity” in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
