Breaking the hunger cycle: WCC to host Webinar on food security and nutrition for World Food Day

On 16 October, during World Food Day, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will host an international webinar to address the worsening global food crisis. Featuring voices from the United Nations, civil society, academia, and faith communities, the event will examine the systemic causes of hunger and explore ways to empower women and children, the most vulnerable to food insecurity.

Children, HIV and the church

According to the 2024 global UNAIDS update, approximately 120,000 children acquired HIV in 2023. Only 57% of the estimated 1.4 million children living with HIV were receiving antiretroviral therapy in this year. In comparison, 77% of the overall population of persons living with HIV have access to antiretroviral therapy. 

WCC gravely concerned by attacks on Lebanon

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed deep sadness and grave concern over the escalating violence and attacks on Lebanon. As followers of Christ and stewards of peace, we reaffirm our commitment to justice and the protection of human dignity and lives,” he said. We unequivocally condemn the use of violence, particularly in civilian areas, which has caused immense suffering, destruction, and the tragic loss of life.”

WCC moderator speaks during Focolare meeting

Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican bishops from all over the world took part in an international ecumenical online meeting of the Focolare Movement on 19 September. World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm spoke about the WCCs work in the face of the world’s grave challenges.
