On 16 October, during World Food Day, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will host an international webinar to address the worsening global food crisis. Featuring voices from the United Nations, civil society, academia, and faith communities, the event will examine the systemic causes of hunger and explore ways to empower women and children, the most vulnerable to food insecurity.

At a time when global crises risk diverting attention from critical health issues, the annual Communities of Faith Breakfast held on 26 September at the Yale Club of New York City alongside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), reaffirmed the need to prioritize children in the global fight against HIV. 

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed deep sadness and grave concern over the escalating violence and attacks on Lebanon. “As followers of Christ and stewards of peace, we reaffirm our commitment to justice and the protection of human dignity and lives,” he said. “We unequivocally condemn the use of violence, particularly in civilian areas, which has caused immense suffering, destruction, and the tragic loss of life.”

Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican bishops from all over the world took part in an international ecumenical online meeting of the Focolare Movement on 19 September. World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm spoke about the WCC’s work in the face of the world’s grave challenges. 

The annual Communities of Faith Breakfast will be held in New York City on 26 September with the theme “Building Partnerships to Sustain the HIV response Through 2030 and Beyond.”

A new World Council of Churches (WCC)-led project, "Legal Action for Intergenerational Climate Justice,” will roll out beginning in September. The project will help WCC member churches and all people of good will shape not only the spiritual but also the socio-economic trajectories that define our world.
