World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended warm greetings to Jewish communities around the world as they celebrate Hanukkah. 

The historic city of Xanthi in Greece hosted "Youth Empowerment and Intercultural Coexistence," a workshop supported by KAICIID and organised by the Holy Metropolis of Xanthi and Peritheorion, together with the Muftiate of Xanthi.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Reference Group for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation will convene in person at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva from 1-3 December. 

At the COP29 side event, “Beyond numbers: A Dialogue on the New Collective Quantified Goal from Faith and Ethical Perspectives,” hosted by the Interfaith Liaison Committee, which the World Council of Churches (WCC) co-chairs, faith leaders and advocates called for a climate finance model rooted in justice and accountability. Speakers emphasized that effective climate finance must go beyond numbers to directly support the adaptation and resilience of communities facing the harshest climate impacts.

On 6 November, an informal online interfaith gathering in spirit of Talanoa will convene at COP29.

A delegation from the KAICIID Dialogue Centre – based in Lisbon – visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 22 October to explore areas of common interest and possible cooperation, with a particular focus on issues in the European region.

A vigil held in Geneva, “Interreligious Recollection–A Year of Suffering,” on 7 October at the historic St Pierre Cathedral drew reflections on a date that marked the beginning of a new period of tragic violence in the Middle East. 

The World Jewish Congress hosted a UN Human Rights Council side event, “Fighting Antisemitism through Peer-to-Peer Learning," on 24 September.

At the 81st International Film Festival in Venice, held 28 August through 7 September, the film “Quiet Life,” directed by Alexandros Avranas, received the 13th Interfilm Award for Promoting Interreligious Dialogue.

The World Council of Churches is inviting all people of goodwill to participate in the Nuclear Prayer Day, to be held 6 August.
