“Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith.” — 2 Thess 1:4

Greetings and blessings to you in the name of our Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The World Council of Churches congratulates and salutes you and all the churches and organizations that comprise the Hong Kong Christian Council on this, your 70th anniversary.

We in the wider fellowship of churches so admire your deep and enduring ecumenical commitments over the decades. We see them still in the many active, engaged, constructive ways in which you serve your people and address the unique challenges of Hong Kong today. Despite the pandemic, tensions, and a changing economy, you have continued to gather Christians of all backgrounds together for prayer and worship, consultation, inter-Christian and interfaith dialogue, teaching, and service.

We are especially grateful for your recent participation in the WCC’s 11th Assembly, and we laud your close cooperation with the China Christian Council and the Christian Conference of Asia.

Christianity is deeply embedded in Hong Kong, and the council is a vital element in ensuring its presence and future there. You, your member churches and affiliated organizations keep the ecumenical flame burning bright, presenting a united witness to Jesus Christ and to God’s all-embracing love.

So as you celebrate this important anniversary, renewing your vision and embarking on a new era, we share your joy, we walk with you in solidarity, and we pray for your continued faithful service to the gospel in Hong Kong.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay
