On behalf of the World Council of Churches, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE). This milestone is not just a celebration of time, but a testament to the profound impact MCE has had on promoting peace, tolerance, and coexistence in our world.

The Muslim Council of Elders was founded at a time when extremist religious discourse and the misuse of religion for geopolitical agendas posed significant challenges to humanity. In this critical context, MCE emerged as a beacon of hope, a platform representing an authentic voice of Islam committed to promoting human fraternity.

In a remarkably short period, the MCE has succeeded in becoming a vital force for good, challenging misconceptions and fostering dialogue among diverse communities.

Together with our brothers and sisters from the Muslim Council of Elders, we have ventured forward on the journey of peace and justice. Our shared initiatives and collaborations have strengthened the bonds between our communities, showcasing our united stance against violence and division.

As we celebrate this significant anniversary, we reflect on the journey we have undertaken together. The World Council of Churches is proud to have walked alongside the MCE, advocating for a world where diversity is embraced and every individual is respected and valued.

Looking ahead, we are confident that the Muslim Council of Elders will continue to be the significant advocate for dialogue and understanding that it has become. In the words of the 2022 WCC 11th Assembly Message: “We long for a wider movement, the reconciliation and unity of all humanity, and indeed of the entire cosmos… a unity in which God establishes justice, an equal place for all, through which creation may be renewed and strengthened.” Within that sense of shared commitment, the WCC commits to collaborating with the MCE in promoting religion as a vector of hope, love, and harmony.

Congratulations once again on this remarkable achievement. May the next decade bring even greater success and impact as we continue our shared mission of fostering a world rooted in justice, peace and mutual respect.

With warmest regards,

Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay
