Take, Lord, this day, all my liberty. Receive my memory, my understanding, my whole will, all that I have and possess; You have given all to me; I return it all to you. Give me only your love and your grace. With these I am rich enough and I desire nothing more.

Prayer

Take, Lord, this day, all my liberty.

Receive my memory, my understanding, my whole will, all that I have and possess;

You have given all to me; I return it all to you.

Give me only your love and your grace.

With these I am rich enough and I desire nothing more. Amen

(Pilgrim Prayer, adapted, 28)

Responsive Psalm 22: 9 – 21

Yet it was you who took me from the womb; you kept me safe on my mother’s breast.

On you I was cast from my birth, and since my mother bore me you have been my God.

Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

Many bulls encircle me, strong bulls of Bashan surround me;

they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint;

my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;

my mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws;

    you lay me in the dust of death.

For dogs are all around me; a company of evildoers encircles me.

My hands and feet have shriveled;

I can count all my bones. They stare and gloat over me;

they divide my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.

But you, O Lord, do not be far away! O my help, come quickly to my aid!

Deliver my soul from the sword,

    my life from the power of the dog!

    Save me from the mouth of the lion!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

Prayer before the Proclamation of God’s Word

Blessed are you, O God, for your word of strength, of encouragement, of hope –

that contagious word which allows us to believe

and to move towards the renewal of our world.

Grant us to hear your word and to persevere in it, putting it into practice.

Amen

(Pilgrim Prayer, 30)

Scripture Reading: Job 6: 1 – 13

1 “After Then Job answered:

“O that my vexation were weighed,

    and all my calamity laid in the balances!

For then it would be heavier than the sand of the sea;

    therefore my words have been rash.

For the arrows of the Almighty are in me;

    my spirit drinks their poison;

    the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

Does the wild ass bray over its grass,

    or the ox low over its fodder?

Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt,

    or is there any flavo
ur in the juice of mallows?

My appetite refuses to touch them;

    they are like food that is loathsome to me.

“O that I might have my request,

    and that God would grant my desire;

that it would please God to crush me,

    that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!

10 This would be my consolation;

    I would even exult in unrelenting pain;

    for I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

11 What is my strength, that I should wait?

    And what is my end, that I should be patient?

12 Is my strength the strength of stones,

    or is my flesh bronze?

13 In truth I have no help in me,

    and any resource is driven from me.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Moment of Silent Reflection

Prayers of Intercession

Lord Christ, we come to you seeking to be reconciled to you for you are Emmanuel – God with us.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

You came from the Father, as Joseph, to visit your brothers and sisters,

to greet us and bring us God’s salvation.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

Filled with jealousy and envy, like Joseph’s brothers, we sold you, for a few coins.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

We lost you. But you have returned again.

You are constantly returning to seek your lost brothers and sisters.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

Lost without you, we your brothers and sister, are hungry, fearful, and cold,

in the dark night of this world, downhearted, disconsolate, disheartened.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

You join us on our pilgrimage.

Travelling through the world, you are our guide, our counsellor, torch-bearer, star, our strength.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you.

As we journey, be our motivator, joy, our defence, refuge, protector, our provider, sustainer, food for the journey, our listener, friend and companion.

You are the way, Lord. Bring us back to following you. Amen

(Pilgrim Prayer, adapted, 28)

With the words that Jesus taught us, let us now pray together:

Our Father…

Benediction

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ

and the love of God

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

be with us all this day. Amen
