The 10th international GenFest, an initiative through the Focolare Movement, is being held in three phases—Act, Celebrate, and Connect—from 12-28 July.
“At the World Council of Churches, we believe that young people are not only the future but the present of the church,” says Pillay. “They are vibrant advocates for Christian unity.”
Pillay describes GenFest as a space where the voices of young people are not only heard but are integral to shaping the future of our world. “The insights and perspectives you bring are invaluable in addressing global challenge,” he said.
“Dare to act,” says Pillay. “Dare to challenge all kinds of injustice.”
Pillay also urges the young people to stay original. “Contribute to your communities with your God-given gifts,” he says. “Embrace virtues such as discernment, epistemological humility, commitment, empathy, hospitality, love.”
Pillay extends the prayers and support of the entire ecumenical community.
“May your efforts inspire many and bring about tangible change in our world,” he says. “Together, we can build a more just and caring world.”
