“To all of you participating in this year’s assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, I take special delight today in offering, on behalf of the whole ecumenical fellowship united in the World Council of Churches, our fraternal greetings in Christ,” say Pillay. “I recall with gratitude my own visit with you at your last assembly, a year ago, and your recent hosting of our Ecumenical Indigenous Peoples Network Reference Group.”
The theme for this year’s gathering is "One Heart in Love, Bound in Fellowship." “This theme allows you to focus on unity, love, and strengthening relationships within the church community,” said Pillay. “It also echoes the reality at the heart of our whole ecumenical fellowship, namely, our oneness in the love of Christ and the community it fosters.”
Christ’s love moves us to be agents of reconciliation, justice, and peace, said Pillay. “You model how the Reformed tradition can contribute to the ecumenical movement for peace and justice as agents of reconciliation,” he said. “Your witness has never been more important.”
Pillay shared his hope this year’s gathering will prove a special time for communal prayer and worship, for fellowship and inspiration, for discernment and deliberation.
“In this Easter season we celebrate God’s vindication of Jesus’ own journey of love, through the cross to Resurrection,” said Pillay. “As Easter people, we take heart for the future, encouraged in our shared faith-filled journey as a church and as a people toward justice and peace.”
