Nalwamba offered a keynote speech on the assembly theme “Revisioning Mission.” In the speech, entitled “Not by Might, nor by Power: Re-storying Mission in a Time of Hyper-Complexity,” she spoke of gathering in unsettled times.
“In ecological debates, migration disputes, and conflicts around nationalism and identity, actors disagree not only about solutions but about the definition of the problems themselves,” she said. “This is the context in which we are called to revision mission.”
In such a context, Nalwamba emphasized that the church can no longer imagine itself as standing outside the world's crises, offering solutions from a position of neutrality. “The church is not a pure agent descending from outside into a contaminated world,” she said. “We are implicated in the histories, structures, and relationships that have contributed to many of the challenges we now face.”
