The archbishops were kidnapped by gunmen on 23 April 2013 when they were on their way back from the Turkish border to their city of Aleppo.
“During this Paschal season, as we proclaim Christ’s victory over death, we remember all those who have been forcibly disappeared in Syria and we carry in our hearts the pain of the Cross still present in our world,” said Pillay. “We pray for their safe return, or for the peace of knowing their fate and for the healing of the Syrian people.”
Pillay concluded: “May the light of the Resurrection break through the darkness of suffering and despair. Christ is Risen. Truly He is Risen.”
