Hanselmann was a former vicar at the WCC Ecumenical Institute at Bossey. She passed on 10 May.
During the academic year 2003-2004, when she was at Bossey. Vicars were young German pastors or advanced theological students, financially supported by their church. As part of their practical training, they usually stayed in Bossey for about a year, hosting German visitor groups.
Hanselmann, in addition to her role as vicar, also graduated from the 55th session of the Graduate School of Ecumenical Studies at Bossey.
She also served as a pastor at Evangelical Student Congregation at Kiel University, as well as a pastor in the Kiel-Gaarden parish.
Born in Franconia, Hanselmann dedicated her career to guiding young lives.
After studying theology in Neuendettelsau in Bavaria, in Vienna, and Hamburg, she did her vicariate at the Nordkirche in Neumünster.
She was an ecumenical pastor in the Schleswig-Flensburg district for seven years.
In January 2022, she was appointed pastor of the Evangelical Student Community (Evangelische Studierendengemeinde, ESG) at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel.. As pastor at ESG Kiel, she led a diverse group of students in activities including prayer services, study trips, board game nights, and peace prayers during the Ukraine conflict. She focused on inclusivity and intercultural connection. She also served as a spiritual counselor at the university's International Center, offering listening and support to students of various backgrounds.
When asked what she would wish for her students, she answered: "That they courageously pursue their own path and have the confidence to achieve something.”
