Implenia is the developer of the Green Village real estate project – the first Geneva property development with the "One Planet Living” label.
A portion of the tree planting initiative occurred on 20 April in the forest in Versoix, Geneva, as a group planted 275 tree seedings.
A tree planting project was dually coordinated by Implenia, the World Council of Churches, and The Almighty Tree, an environmental organization that acts against climate change, creates a cleaner environment, and raises awareness of the carbon emissions responsibility.
The project, initiated to offset the carbon footprint of the Montreal Building in the Green Village, has collectively planted 2,470 trees in Geneva, as well as 2,470 trees in Kenya.
In the tree planting event on 20 April, tenants from Montreal, Implenia, the World Council of Churches, and The Almighty Tree received an overview of the local forest, including details about the value of trees in advancing biodiversity and forestry, as well as the trees’ role in cooling the climate.
The Almighty Tree helps organizations calculate their carbon footprint, then offset it by planting trees. Trees absorb CO2 and contribute to a climate balance.
One Planet Living labelled neighbourhoods aim to reduce CO2 emissions and gradually abandon fossil fuels, with buildings powered by renewable energy, solar panels, access to sustainable mobility, and other initiatives. They also conserve and nurture biodiversity.
Once completed, the Green Village will offer working space for 3,000 employees, over 200 hotel and apartment rooms, 50 families, and numerous local services.
