Bringing together theologians, church leaders, and scholars from Orthodox, Protestant, Roman Catholic, and other Christian traditions, the consultation will explore some of the most pressing theological and ethical questions facing churches today. The event forms part of the WCC Faith and Order Commission’s ongoing programme of theological reflection and ecumenical dialogue, aimed at advancing the search for visible Christian unity.
Hosted in the historic city of Sibiu, the consultation will build on the momentum of the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order held in Egypt, in 2025, which marked the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea. Participants in Sibiu will examine how churches can respond faithfully to contemporary challenges while remaining rooted in the Apostolic and Nicene faith.
The program will focus on three major areas of theological work currently guiding the Faith and Order Commission: ecclesiology and church unity; theological anthropology and moral discernment; and the mission of the church in relation to justice, reconciliation, peace, and decolonisation.
Sessions will feature presentations and responses from internationally recognised theologians and ecumenical leaders, including Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, vice moderator of the Faith and Order Commission, and Prof. Dr Andrej Jeftic, director of the commission.
The consultation seeks to strengthen Orthodox theological contributions within the wider ecumenical movement while fostering dialogue among Christian traditions. Organisers hope the gathering will contribute to the reception of recent Faith and Order work and encourage renewed theological engagement in a rapidly changing world.
