“As nature reaches its peak of beauty and vitality, may this celebration remind us of the potential for spiritual renewal and the flowering of compassion in our lives,” said Pillay. “The life of the Buddha, together with his profound teachings, illuminates the path to liberation from desire and suffering, and guides towards wisdom, compassion, and inner peace.”
Pillay added that the WCC, as Christians, extends a hand of friendship to its Buddhist brothers and sisters.
“Let us walk together, Christians and Buddhists, awakening in humanity the strength to embrace one another with open hearts,” said Pillay. “May our shared love and compassion uplift those who suffer and bring hope where it is most needed.”
