“This prestigious recognition is a testament to your outstanding career and invaluable contributions in the fields of truth, justice, recovery, and accompaniment to the victims of the military dictatorship in Chile”, commented Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, WCC general secretary.
“Your collaboration with the Chilean churches and non-governmental organizations has been instrumental in advancing the cause of human rights and justice, and we are proud to have you as a key partner”, added Pillay.
Together with the WCC, Gonzáles Urbina was actively involved in advocacy efforts in United Nations circles in Geneva and New York to denounce the violations of the human rights of those imprisoned, tortured, and disappeared.
Currently, Gonzáles Urbina leads the Foundation for Social Assistance of the Christian Churches Memory site, whose archive was recognized by UNESCO as part of the Memory of the World and World Heritage program in 2003.
The foundation, founded in 1975, has dedicated itself to supporting victims of the dictatorship and has played a crucial role in defending human rights in Chile. Gonzáles Urbina has led the foundation since its inception, working tirelessly to protect those who have suffered human rights violations and to promote justice and reparation.
