The WCC governing body demanded “efforts for full legal accountability for perpetrators of atrocity crimes in El Fasher and elsewhere in Sudan, since the outbreak of the war, and in this regard welcomes the UN Human Rights Council’s mandate for an urgent inquiry by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan, as well as relevant initiatives by the African Union and others.”
The WCC executive committee also called upon “all external actors financing and supplying arms to the combatants in this war, to desist immediately from such support.”
The statement underscores the WCC’s commitment to accompanying churches and Christian communities of Sudan.
The WCC executive committee is meeting in Hangzhou, China from 20-25 November.
