Some thirty commissioners gathered online to reflect on questions related to the place given to theological education and ecumenical formation in the churches, theological seminars or faculties, and the opportunities for mutual learning in these areas within the fellowship.

"It was great joy to meet our commissioner again which is very diverse in terms of gender, regions, denominations", said Rev. Dr Meehyun Chung, from the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, moderator the EEF Commission. "We had a fruitful meeting to prepare our journey together for our ecumenical formation and dissemination of our experiences and knowledge", she added.

The WCC Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation is the WCC's primary advisory body for the area of education, ecumenical formation, and faith nurture. It develops priorities and methodologies in these areas, and fosters networking, exchange and collaboration among ecumenical institutions and experts in the area of ecumenical formation.

Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon, director of the commission and dean of the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, commented: We explored the central topics of theological education and ecumenical formation in churches and universities from all over the world, and heard which matters are vital.”

He added: We also started working in our two working groups on a basic course on ecumenical theology and on the groundwork for the next Global Ecumenical Theological Institute, which will take place in Egypt in 2025.”

The WCC Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation is comprised of 33 members from WCC member churches all over the world and the Vatican.

The group will hold its first in-person meeting in June at the Yonsei University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.
