Plenary taking decisions

People raise orange consensus cards in affirmation of what has been proposed at the 2025 Central Committee meeting of the World Council of Churches taking place in Johannesburg (South Africa) from 18 to 24 June 2025 on the theme ’Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity’.

The WCC governing body referred to the Mid-Term Evaluation Working Group for discussion and consideration the establishment of a long-range strategic planning process that includes a comprehensive reorientation of how and what WCC does programmatically, and an accounting of the various dimensions that work done by WCC can mean work done by WCC member churches, specialized ministries, or the WCC Secretariat.

The WCC central committee referred to the Governance Review Working Group for discussion and consideration the establishment of a funding advisory mechanism before and during the WCC 12th Assembly which would provide timely advice on information to assembly delegates and assembly committees on the financial impact for proposed mandates and programmes being considered. This would address the current gap in advisory capacity, mitigate financial impacts, and ensure informed decision-making on strategic and operational matters.

The central committee, after receiving a report monitoring progress with the WCC financial strategy 2023-2026, approved a revised general reserves policy, and also recommended that that all member churches should make an annual contribution.

In addition, the WCC governing body approved a revised policy for reimbursement of travel costs for WCC governing, consultative, and advisory bodies.

Finally, the WCC central committee authorized the WCC executive committee to decide the way forward on the Green Village project.
