The election took place within the framework of the church’s 65th Assembly in Eldorado, Misiones, Argentina.
WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended his heartfelt congratulations.
“Your vision, passion, and efforts have inspired many, and we are confident that under your guidance, the United Evangelical Lutheran Church will continue to thrive and flourish,” said Pillay. “As you embark on this new chapter of your journey, please know that you have the full support and solidarity of the WCC and its member churches around the world.”
Pereyra, in her election acceptance speech, highlighted that the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina and Uruguay 65th Assembly was held again in Eldorado after 43 years.
For the first time in history, a woman succeeds another in the presidency of the church. Pereyra will succeed Rev. Wilma Rommel, the first woman to assume the presidency.
