HEKS/EPER is the the aid organization of the Protestant Church in Switzerland. Through its work in Switzerland, HEKS/EPER fosters social inclusion for marginalized people, promotes equal opportunity, and supports asylum seekers and other socially deprived people with legal advice. HEKS/EPER operates six Branch Offices in Switzerland, which run more than 60 projects and programms in 16 cantons. In more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe HEKS/EPER supports development cooperation, humanitarian aid, and church cooperation projects.
In addition to a welcome from the WCC general secretary, Frischkopf and Schmid received a programmatic update from WCC senior staff, as well as an overview on governance, specialized ministries, reporting, communication, and finance.
“The commonly shared values of faith-based organizations are a strong basis for cooperation and synergies to strive for the universal vision of a world in peace and dignity for all human beings. HEKS/EPER thanks WCC for its unifying role in this regard,” said Frischkopf.
Walter Schmid underlined the importance of WCC’s work for the unity of churches in a polarized world where Christians are often on different sides. HEKS/EPER is committed to continue and to strengthen its cooperation with WCC.
Pillay said that HEKS/EPER has consistently been supportive of the WCC related to climate emergency and water justice, as well as the work of the Bossey Ecumenical Institute and other programmes.
“I appreciate the synergy, collaboration and cooperation we have between HEKS/EPER and the WCC,” said Pillay. “Our work together is making the world a better place and is bringing hope for our next generations and for all of God’s creation.”
