Students are enrolled in programmes that will earn them a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Ecumenical Studies, Complementary Certificate in Ecumenical Studies or a Master of Advanced Studies in Ecumenical Studies.
Beginning with prayers in the chapel, the group will take part in a four-days orientation programme under the theme “Building an Ecumenical Community - Exploring our differences and our commonalities.”
"As we open this 2026–2027 academic year at Bossey, we do so at a turning point. Eighty years after our founding, formation is not simply what we programme, it is the ethos that shapes how we live, study, pray and serve together", said Prof. Dr Kuzipa Nalwamba, WCC programme director for Unity, Mission, and Ecumenical Formation. "This cohort does not merely inherit that legacy; they will embody it, and in embodying it, they will participate in writing the next chapter."
Reflecting on the start of the academic year, the academic dean, Fr Lawrence Iwuamadi has this to say: “We are delighted to welcome students from around the world into the Bossey community. At a time of growing polarization and division, Bossey remains a place where people from different churches, cultures, and contexts learn, pray, and grow together. As we mark 80 years of ecumenical formation, we reaffirm our conviction that genuine encounter across differences can nurture hope, deepen understanding, and contribute to the healing of our world.”
The Orientation Programme is intended to introduce new students to the academic study programme of the Ecumenical Institute as it is embedded into a unique study environment. The students will be introduced to the Bossey library, academic courses, the academic style guide, and grading. They will visit the World Council of Churches headquarters in Geneva and participate in the Academic Year Opening Service of the Faculty of Theology, University of Geneva.
Lectures will start on Tuesday 15 September 2026, at the end of the orientation.
