Votes need to be cast by 30 April.
The contest recognizes activities that leverage the power of information and communication technologies to advance sustainable development.
The two WACC initiatives are a multiyear “Voices of the Amazon” project that strengthens the voices of those hardest hit by the climate emergency, and a global initiative, “Taking action against tech-facilitated gender-based violence,” which, in partnership with the World Council of Churches (WCC), uses a tool to monitor social media for misogyny and micro-aggressions.
The projects were selected from nearly 1,000 submissions for the prizes.
Eighteen winning projects will be announced together with 72 champion projects in July.
Rev. Nicole Ashwood, WCC programme executive for Just Community of Women and Men, urged people to support a world free from tech-facilitated gender violence, not just by voting for the contest winner but by our daily lifestyle in every way, and every day.
“Protecting women from online misogyny and aggression is woven into everything we strive for through the WCC Just Community of Women and Men,” she said. “We hope that people will support this initiative and help us bring about the ultimate transformation that will come about with new knowledge, new tools, and a spirit of equality and dignity.”

Sara Speicher, WACC deputy general secretary, said the two projects recognize the power communication has in every aspect of our lives and the positive impact it can have when used to amplify issues of human rights and justice. “We hope our global networks will help us to make these initiatives and the challenges they are addressing even more visible through the WSIS prizes,” she said.
