Webinar: A New Liturgical Feast, a Gift for the Third Millennium

Churches across Christian traditions are adding a new date to their liturgical calendars. On 18 and 19 March, a webinar invites church leaders, liturgists, ecumenical officers, and all who are interested to join the conversation. The World Council of Churches (WCC) and partner world communions present "A New Liturgical Feast, a Gift for the Third Millennium" — the same programme on consecutive days to reach participants in every time zone.

About the Feast of Creation

The Feast of Creation - observed on 1 September or the first Sunday of that month - has been the subject of ecumenical dialogues in Assisi, Italy, since 2024. Chaired by the WCC in collaboration with 13 Christian world communions, those conversations have produced a proposal to elevate the feast to become a liturgical feast across Christian denominational calendars. Drawing on the day's ancient liturgical symbolism in the Eastern Orthodox tradition and renewed by the centenary of the Council of Nicaea, it is a movement filled with ecumenical hope.

What to expect

At the webinar, participants will hear an overview of the ecumenical process, discover practical resources for establishing the feast in their liturgical calendars, and join breakout discussions shaped for individual communions.
