Seven Weeks for Water 2025: Protecting Our Glaciers, Sustaining Life

The Seven Weeks for Water campaign, organized by the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network, will run throughout the Lenten season, starting on Ash Wednesday, 5 March 2025, with a prayer service at the WCC Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland.

The campaign focuses on the urgent need for glacier preservation—a key theme of World Water Day 2025—highlighting the devastating impact of climate change on the world’s water resources.

 Key events and activities:

  • Launch Prayer Service (5 March 2025) – WCC Ecumenical Centre, Geneva 
  • Weekly biblical-theological reflections by global theologians and church leaders
  • Engagement in global advocacy efforts related to glacier preservation and water justice
  • World Water Day (22 March 2025) – Release of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2025: “Mountains and Glaciers – Water Towers”
  • Webinars around World Water Day with authors of Seven Weeks for Water
