Nourishing Hope: Faith-based solutions to end hunger and environmental crisis

To mark World Hunger Day, observed 28 May annually, a collaborative webinar on 3 June, hosted by the World Council of Churches, Caritas Internationalis, and World Vision International will address global hunger challenges. The session will provide participants with insights into the current political landscape and funding environment, while showcasing innovative faith-led initiatives that are making a fundamental difference in communities.

Jaffey harvests peanuts near the village of Kemadang, Indonesia. He participates in a local "food barn" coordinated by the village's Javanese Christian Church congregation. The project helps farmers impacted by the climate crisis to change their farming techniques and store their harvests in order to sell at more profitable times.

Like many Indonesians, Jaffey uses only one name.

The 90-minute gathering will feature a thought-provoking panel discussion highlighting successful faith community-led solutions from Rwanda, Indonesia, and Ecuador among others. Experts will explore the interconnections between debt burdens, nutrition challenges, and climate impacts on food security, with several interactive opportunities for participants to share their own perspectives.

Outcomes from this webinar will contribute to recommendations for a comprehensive faith leaders' statement to be presented at the World Food Day event in October 2025.
