Easter 2025: Celebrating together to strengthen unity
In 2025 Christians from all traditions will celebrate Easter on the same day, 20 April. But in many years major Christian traditions celebrate Easter on different dates, thus giving the impression of a divided witness to this fundamental aspect of the Christian faith.
Since the 16th century, Eastern and Western churches have used different calendars to calculate the date of Easter, and only rarely do they coincide. The search for a common date for Easter was also one of the central issues of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, whose 1700th anniversary is being celebrated in 2025.
This webinar will bring together people from different traditions – Coptic, Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and Lutheran – to explore how a shared celebration of Easter can unite Christians worldwide in their common faith in the resurrected Christ.
