Advocacy Training for Church Workers
This three-hour online training for religious leaders, lay leaders, educators, seminary students and interested individuals will provide skills to effectively integrate advocacy into preaching, liturgy, and Bible studies. This affords participants – lay and clergy – to address social justice issues, support marginalized communities, and inspire positive change within their congregations and beyond.
Organized by the WCC Just Community of Women and Men, the session will provide an introduction to advocacy as well as address advocacy for specific issues: people with disabilities, climate/eco-justice, and conflict. Three parallel breakout sessions will look at worship preparation, Bible study, and preaching.
Following this training, participants will have:
- An enhanced understanding of advocacy and its role in religious contexts
- Practical methods for integrating advocacy into preaching, liturgy and Bible studies
- Connection to a global network of like-minded individuals committed to social justice and advocacy
- Resources and tools for ongoing support in advocacy efforts.
Two separate sessions are offered for participants in different time zones: 8:30-11:30 CET/Geneva and 14:00-17:00 CET/Geneva
Facilitators will be experienced ecumenical trainers in advocacy, including theologians, clergy, and social justice activists. Their diverse backgrounds will provide a well-rounded perspective on integrating advocacy into religious practices.
Sessions will feature engaging presentations, group discussions and breakout groups.
