The Rev. Dr Angelique Walker-Smith is the National Senior Associate for Pan African and Orthodox Church Engagement at Bread for the World based in Washington D.C. She brings extensive global, national and local experience as a faith thought leader, journalist, television host, speaker, and author. This work has included serving as an Initiator in the Pan African Women of Faith Networks.
She has been Ecumenical Representative for National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and is a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches and engaged in work of the National Council of Churches in the USA. She is also President of the Historic Black Church Family of Christian Churches Together also made up of many of the USA national churches. She has received many awards and recognitions, including from President Clinton, Senator Richard Lugar and two of her alma maters, Yale University Divinity School and Kent State University.
She received the highest prestigious award in Indiana, the Sagamore of the Wabash, in 2014 from Vice President Mike Pence when he was Governor of Indiana. She received her doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. Walker-Smith also served as the first woman and person of African descent as the Executive Director/Minister of The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, one of the oldest Council of Churches in the world founded in 1912. She also has served as the assistant chaplain to women in prison at Indiana Women’s Prison.
